Hawai‘i Revised Statutes sec. 174C-7(b) requires that one of the seven members on the Water Commission “have substantial experience or expertise in traditional Hawaiian water resource management techniques and in traditional Hawaiian riparian usage such as those preserved by section 174C-101.”
Governor Green’s office received a list of candidates for the nomination in February. The term for the previous expert in traditional Hawaiian agricultural practices ended in June. This seat has been vacant for months now. No reason has been given for why the Governor has not nominated an expert to fill this important seat.
